Description

This is a full truckload of bulk softwood pellets: 24 tonnes of 6 mm pine and spruce heating pellets, delivered in one go. It’s meant for people who get through fuel in quantity, such as pellet resellers, farms, schools, apartment blocks, hotels and businesses with large boilers.

Buying 24 tonnes at once cuts the number of deliveries, the paperwork and the worry about running low in January. It also needs some planning on your side, mostly around space and unloading. The details are below.

What a truckload contains

ProductBulk softwood pellets, heating grade
WoodPine and spruce
Pellet diameter6 mm
Total weight24 tonnes
How it’s packedBagged pellets on pallets, roughly 24 pallets of about a tonne each
BurnQuick ignition, bright flame, low ash
SKUSW-HEAT-24T

Because the pellets are bagged and palletised, you can store them in stages, sell them on by the pallet or the bag, and move them with ordinary handling equipment. If you need loose pellets blown into a silo, talk to us before ordering so we can say what’s possible for your location.

Who buys bulk softwood pellets?

Most truckload customers fall into a few groups:

  • Resellers and garden centres who sell pallets and single bags to local households
  • Farms and rural properties with several buildings or a large biomass boiler
  • Housing managers running communal heating in apartment buildings
  • Hotels, schools and offices with pellet boilers that run all season

If you’re a household, a truckload is usually too much unless you’re sharing with neighbours. A single pallet of softwood heating pellets is the better starting point.

How bulk softwood pellets perform

Pine and spruce light easily and burn hot. That suits boilers that fire up and shut down often, and stoves that need to warm a room fast. Ash is low, which matters more at this scale than people expect. Less ash means fewer service visits and less time spent cleaning across a heating season.

For buyers who need a fuel standard on paper, the most widely used one is ENplus. Its A1 grade sets maximum moisture at 10% and ash at 0.7%. Tell us which grade your contract or boiler warranty asks for, and we’ll confirm how the batch of bulk softwood pellets on offer compares before you commit to 24 tonnes.

Prefer a denser fuel for long burns? The same truckload is available in hardwood. See bulk hardwood pellets.

Planning the delivery

A full truck carrying 24 tonnes needs room. Before you order, think through:

  1. Access. Can a large articulated lorry reach your site and turn? Narrow lanes, low bridges and soft verges cause most failed deliveries.
  2. Unloading. You’ll normally need a forklift or telehandler and someone to drive it. Say so in your order notes if this is a problem.
  3. Space. Two dozen pallets take up a fair amount of floor. Measure first.
  4. Timing. Pick a date when someone who knows the site can meet the driver.

We’ll go through these points with you when we confirm the order, along with the freight cost to your address. We deliver worldwide, and the cost depends on distance and route, so it’s always agreed before dispatch.

Checking the load when it arrives

Before the driver leaves, walk round the pallets. Look for torn wrap, crushed bags, or wet patches at the base of a stack. Count the pallets against your order. If anything looks wrong, take a photo, note it on the delivery paperwork and tell us the same day. It’s much easier to sort out a problem that’s recorded at the time than one found a fortnight later.

Then open one bag from a couple of different pallets. Bulk softwood pellets in good condition are firm and glossy, snap cleanly, and leave only a little dust at the bottom of the bag. A heavy layer of fines points to rough handling or damp.

Truckload or single pallets?

A truckload makes sense when you’ll use or sell around 24 tonnes within a season and you have the storage. Below that, buying by the pallet is usually easier. Some buyers start with a few pallets of softwood heating pellets, check how their boiler takes to the fuel, and then move to bulk softwood pellets for the next season once they know their numbers.

Think about cash flow too. A full load ties up money in stock, but it also fixes your fuel for the season. Resellers in particular tend to buy early, before cold weather pushes demand up.

Storing 24 tonnes of pellets

Moisture is the enemy. Bulk softwood pellets that sit in the wet soak up water, swell and turn back into sawdust. Store the pallets under a roof, off the ground, and with air moving around them. Keep the stretch-wrap on until each pallet is needed.

Rotate stock: first in, first out. If you resell, check the bottom layers of each stack now and then for damage from forklifts or leaks.

We store our own stock in a dry, humidity-controlled warehouse and wrap each pallet before loading, so the fuel arrives the way it left us. You can read about how we work on the about page.

Questions about bulk softwood pellets

Can I split a truckload between two sites?

Possibly, depending on distance between the drops. Ask us before you order.

How much heat is in a truckload?

At around 4.6 to 5 kWh per kilogram, 24 tonnes of bulk softwood pellets hold roughly 110,000 to 120,000 kWh of energy. Your boiler’s efficiency decides how much of that ends up as usable heat.

Can I order a mix of softwood and hardwood?

Get in touch through the contact page and we’ll see what we can load. For a single mixed pallet, there’s the mixed pellet pallet.

Where can I see all pellet options?

The truckload category lists both full loads, and the softwood pellets page explains the fuel in more depth. General background is on the wood pellet article.
